Thanksgiving Turkey Distribution

To mark the beginning of a beautiful time of year when the donations and expressions of generosity are often too many to count and our hearts overfill with gratitude daily, we distributed more than 100 turkeys and canned goods from FoodShare to our clients to be utilized in celebration of Thanksgiving. These are our Program Director, Steve MacHattie’s sentiments on why this day is one of his favorites:

“Turkey Distribution Day is a mixed blessing. I look at all the people lined up to get their turkey and I’m saddened by the need. But because of generous donations that people make to Food Share, we are able to provide Thanksgiving dinners for up to 100 of our clients. On this day, somehow, I feel like there is a deeper connection between staff and clients. Staff are stepping on each other, bumping into each other, generally just in each other’s way and we laugh and joke with each other. Then, as I watch the clients walk away with their turkey and fixings for a good dinner, I hope and pray that they will gather with friends, enjoy their dinner and, God willing, reminisce about the good times in their lives and will add this day as a happy memory for years to come.”
