The Shelter’s New Look
It’s hard to contain our excitement as the Shelter Renovation project is imminent! The past 10+ years have been filled with ups and downs as our vision of what the new facility would look like has transformed as we adapted to the needs of Hartford and those served by our agency.
Those who have been inside the shelter in recent years know the building’s insufficiencies; we are excited to share with you some of the updates we are planning:
- New bathrooms and showers sufficient for the number of clients the shelter serves; including private accommodations for those needing more privacy
- Upgraded and expanded kitchen with equipment to adequately serve the number of clients served in the shelter
- Security station with greatly improved lines of sight throughout the shelter and in key transit points to improve safety
- Compliance with ADA handicap accessibility, including elevator and ground-level access
- Case management offices will be onsite at the shelter rather than across the street at Casa de Francisco
- Installation of a fire sprinkler system
- Continuity of services with emergency power generation
- Improved energy efficiency with new HVAC systems
- Reduced fire danger with new electrical systems
- Environmental remediation
We can’t wait to share with you the progress of the project through pictures along the way. If you haven’t already, please “Like” us on Facebook for the most up-to-date information and regular pictures of the renovations!
