Director of Programs Steve MacHattie joined ImmaCare in 2007. After spending several years as a billing representative for local nursing homes he decided that he wanted to work with people and began a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) program at the University of Saint Joseph. During this time he began interning at ImmaCare’s shelter and in April of 2008 was offered a position as a Housing Case Manager for a newly funded Rental Assistance Program (RAP) at the agency. After completing his BSW Mr. MacHattie was promoted to Director of Supportive Housing and Employment. Mr. MacHattie went onto attend Springfield College’s Advanced Standing MSW program and earned his MSW in 2013. In the fall of 2014 Mr. MacHattie was promoted to Director of Programs at ImmaCare and later that year passed the LCSW exam.
As ImmaCare’s Director of Programs, Mr. MacHattie feels privileged to work with men from a variety of different backgrounds. His hope is that the lives of the men served by the agency will be a little better because of the services they receive at ImmaCare. A philosophy professor once asked Mr. MacHattie what he would do if he could do anything. He responded that he would work with male survivors of child abuse. He aspires to one day start his own private, part-time counseling practice specializing in working with individuals struggling with Post-traumatic Stress Disorder.
